Description
Special tool for AVL429-3 Avibank M253A20T1004 Quick Disconnect Pins. 12 pack.
Tool PN: BA-429T3
Why use this tool? That is very simple. Airbus Helicopters AMM tells you to use a 1.5 mm rod, but this can destroy your AVL429-3 pins. This tool prevents damaging the AVL429-3 quick disconnect pins.
See the information notice below for H160/H175:
12x BA-429T3 and 12x drill guide

Information Notice
H175 / H160 Interior Panels – Removal and Installation
This information notice provides clarification regarding the correct tool usage for the removal and installation of AVL429-3 Avibank M253A20T1004 quick disconnect pins.
-The tool described below must not be used for ABS0696-3-2.49 push fasteners (on the H175 used only on Central Cockpit Console Panel Assembly).
-This notice supplements AMM 25-35-…, which references the use of a commercial 1.5 mm rod as a removal tool.
⚠️ Important:
At “your company”, use of a commercial 1.5 mm rod is strictly prohibited.
Only the dedicated removal tool PN: BA-429T3 shown below is approved for use.
This tool is specially designed to prevent damage to the quick disconnect pin.

Tool Usage Instructions
- Insert the tool into the panel hole using two fingers.
- If necessary, apply slight pressure on the panel, but do not apply force to the tool itself.
- The tool is designed to insert with light hand pressure only — forcing it will not improve engagement.
- Once properly inserted, the panel can be removed.
- After removal panel, clean and inspect all pins for damage or wear before reinstallation.
If the Panel Does Not Release
- If the tool does not fit in the hole or the hole does not align with the pin:
Refer to the Modification (MOD) section below for instructions on enlarging the hole.
A one-time use of the 1.5 mm commercial rod is permitted for removal; however, be aware that this will most likely damage the pin.
- Panel under tension:
If light pressure on the panel is insufficient, relieve tension by adjusting the pin screw:- Use a 2.5 mm Allen key on the adjustment screw.
- Turn clockwise (RH) to reduce panel tension. Do not apply excessive torque! the screw has mechanical end stops at both ends of travel. Do not turn beyond the endstop; this will destroy the Avibank pin.
- If the tool still cannot release the pin:
The pin may be defective. Possible causes include:- A damaged or weak internal spring.
- Thread disengagement between the pin and adjustment screw.
- Obstruction or deformation of internal components.
In these cases, the pin must be repaired or replaced.
Technical Explanation
The AVL429-3 (Avibank M253A20T1004) contains a very small internal spring (0.25 mm wire diameter).
Using a standard 1.5 mm rod, as referenced in the Airbus Helicopters AMM, can crush this spring, even with minimal force. The larger diameter section of the special tool engages with the adjustment screw, blocking its movement and preventing the spring from being crushed.
A crushed spring may:
- Prevent proper operation of the pin.
- Cause the pin to jam in the locked or free position.

The picture below shows a comparison between a new spring and an old spring.

Spring and Pivot Pin Observations
- A serviceable spring shows a slight extension of the pivot pin (see below). You can feel spring tension, moving pivot back to its position.

- When replacing the spring:
- Apply Loctite 222 to the threads only.
- Avoid any Loctite contact with moving parts.
- Engage the first thread, apply Loctite, then fully tighten.
- Remove any excess adhesive immediately.
MOD – Panel Hole Adjustment
If the tool does not fit in the hole or the hole does not align with the pin:
- Remove the M253A20T1004 pin from the panel.
- Using the drill guide (supplied with tool) Fully insert the drilling guide in the existing hole on the inside of the panel., enlarge the hole to Ø 3.5–3.7 mm.
- Use of the drill guide is strongly recommended, as Airbus has not always drilled the holes concentrically within the pin recess.
